Rose Pasta Sauce (aka Pink Sauce)

A quick and easy Italian pink sauce pasta which is a combination of a tomato sauce with a cream sauce!
ingredients
8 ounces pasta (gluten-free for gluten-free)
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoon butter
1 small onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, chopped
1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes
28 ounce can whole peeled tomatoes, crushed by hand
1 teaspoon oregano (or Italian seasoning (link))
1 cup heavy/whipping cream
1/2 cup parmigiano reggiano (parmesan cheese), grated
salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons basil, thinly sliced
directions
Start cooking the pasta as directed on the package.
Meanwhile, heat the oil and melt the butter in a large pan over medium heat, add the onion and cook until tender, about 5-8 minutes.
Add the garlic and red pepper flakes and cook until fragrant, about a minute.
Add tomatoes and oregano, bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes before pureeing the sauce in a blender and returning it to the pan.
Add the cream and cheese, mix and let the cheese melt into the sauce.
Drain the cooked pasta and add it to the sauce before seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
Mix in the basil and enjoy!
