We used heavy cream to make our hot chocolate dip, but if you’d rather not deal with making your whipped cream, you can use Cool Whip instead. It will definitely make the process easier, but you’ll also get all the preservatives and ingredients you can’t pronounce along with it.

If you’d like to reduce the sweetness, you can replace the hot chocolate powder with ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder. It will have a less sweet, deeper chocolate flavor.

Have fun with the flavor by adding cinnamon or a touch of nutmeg. To make it Mexican hot chocolate dip, add a little cayenne or ancho chili powder along with the cinnamon.

To make a mint chocolate dip, add peppermint extract to the mixture. In fact, you can use your favorite flavor of hot chocolate mix, such as classic milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, and salted caramel.
